US carrier crew sued TEPCO

According to reports from the Los Angeles media on December 28, eight crew members of the US aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan sued Tokyo Electric Power Co., Ltd. in the US Institute of Technology for concealing the fact that the Fukushima nuclear power plant was damaged, exposing them to high nuclear radiation during the accident. The report said that eight plaintiffs filed a lawsuit to the Federal District Court of San Diego, California, saying: "TEPCO and the Japanese government are conspiring to take concerted action to create a false impression that the level of nuclear radiation will not constitute a plaintiff." Teppo issued "inconsistent with facts and misleading information" on the danger of nuclear radiation to the U.S. military and citizens.

Since nuclear radiation may cause cancer and shorten their life span, 8 plaintiffs demanded that Tokyo Electric Power Co. compensate them for each $10 million and receive a fine of $30 million and set up a $100 million medical treatment for the plaintiff. In March 2011, the earthquake and tsunami in Japan triggered a nuclear leak at the Fukushima plant. At the time, the Ronald Reagan was in the vicinity of the sea, with a total of 5,500 crew members on board. The eight crew members who sued Tokyo Electric Power Co., Ltd. were working on decks and air silos at the time.

In addition, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the new Prime Minister of Japan, visited Fukushima Prefecture on December 29th and stated that the cleanup work after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant was an unprecedented challenge.
