Luo Xiyu: From product to industry

The Iron and Steel Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Steel Research Institute) entered the diamond tool manufacturing industry in 1981. At that time, the original powder metallurgy research laboratory of the Research Institute of Iron and Steel Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the powder room) was responsible for the major military products that had been fully undertaken by the third-line professional factory. The project won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Invention Award and was successfully completed. It is imperative that the research staff of the room be reorganized. In addition, under the background of the transformation of the research institute system from the public institution to the “weaning” year after year, the original powder room established the professional group of electric spark sintered diamond geological drill bits in early 1981. The team leader is Luo Xiyu who just returned from Japan. The professional group cooperated with the former Exploration Engineering Technology Research Institute of the First Metallurgical Exploration Bureau to develop an electric spark sintered diamond geological drill bit. All the developers have a heart to think about it, and work together to open up ideas for technical solutions. Aiming at the characteristics of activation, homogenization, purification and rapid sintering of electric spark sintering, combined with the drillability level of geological rock formation, different carcass formulations were formulated. Through a large number of tests, it has solved many technical difficulties such as die design, nozzle forming, diameter keeping mode, and rigid connection of drill teeth and drill body. In 1982, the ropes and double-tube test drills were taken out. Luo Xiyu and other two took the drill bit in November 1982 and went to the exploration team of Guandifeng in Luliang Mountain, Shanxi Province to carry out the test. I remember going to the mountain and riding a three-wheeled train. People are like bounced up and down on a trampoline. Afterwards, he moved to Xi'an, and when he took the ticket to Huaibei to the Zhuyu exploration team in Zhejiang the next day, Luo Su felt a severe headache. The ambulance was sent to Xi'an People's Hospital, and there was jet vomiting, but the mind was not confused. The doctor had to puncture the waist. Luo responded, don't do it (at the time, the puncture was very hurtful). However, the doctor did not listen to this and saw that the extracted cerebrospinal fluid had become bright red. "If you listen to your words, you will be mistaken." The doctor was temporarily diagnosed as "brain subarachnoid hemorrhage?" Because the hospital did not have a CT machine (there were just two in the country), and a question mark was also given later. The doctor must be closely guarded and the family members come to the hospital. After taking the drug to stop bleeding, the disease eased, and the brothel returned to Beijing one month later. During Luo's illness, the professional group Peng Xianqi organized the development of the drill bit. In Shanxi, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Liaoning, Shandong and other places to try to promote, the drill bit has a good adaptability to the rock formation and long service life. In 1985 passed the technical appraisal of the former Ministry of Metallurgy.

With the development of China's reform and opening up, China's stone processing has mushroomed and rises everywhere. The original powder room technology people actively develop diamond saw blades for cutting stone. The diamond geological drill bit is a typical diamond drilling tool with complex shape and high comprehensive performance requirements. It has certain technical support for the development of diamond cutting tools. The original powder chamber quickly took out the large saw blade of 1.6 m diameter cutting block and the middle saw blade of 0.4 m diameter cut finished board. I remember that when the supply of the substrate was tight, I had to hold the money and drive to the door of the base factory to wait for the substrate to be bought. I remember that for the saw blade, the technician went to the mountain stone processing factory, and it was waiting for the wind and rain. More than 20 days of experiment tracking scenes. Today, it is gratifying that the Steel Research Institute is one of the pioneering units for the mass production of stone saw blades; the stone saw blades have undergone earth-shaking changes in the price-performance ratio under the efforts of the national industry colleagues. That is to say, in the late 1980s, a new 1.6-meter saw blade sold for 7,000 yuan, 120 square meters of hard granite, and 4-6 square meters of a shift; now, the price is only 2,500 yuan, 160 square meters, one shift More than 20 square meters.

In the early 1990s, the construction industry at home and abroad flourished, and the imported 105 series diamond small saw blades appeared on the market. It differs from the large and medium saw blades in that the saw body and the serration are integrally formed and sintered. Peng Xianqi and others have peeped that the market capacity of such saw blades will be even greater in the future. If the prospects for the cornices are promising, they will seize the opportunity to rent some dilapidated factories near the Yuanmingyuan and then to the Changping area, and run around to expand the power and seek gas. Putting together the equipment, around the clock, no holidays, sleepy and sleep, hungry and instant noodles, and work together to overcome the design and manufacture of the overall forming mold, to solve the problem of the toothing encountered in the initial film. In the country, the company successfully developed the 105 series of integrated sintered tablets. At that time, China's raw materials and labor were cheap, and the products were put on the US market, which immediately caused a chain reaction. The orders of foreign merchants came to the fore. In the simple and scattered factories in Changping, workers were busy 365 days a year. The figure and R&D technicians have successively developed new and happy moods. In the same industry in the country, we first created a glorious performance with annual sales of over 100 million yuan. Foreign merchants are constantly visiting and ordering, so that the most difficult thing for Peng Xianqi’s boss is to bring foreign businessmen to the Toilet. At that time, the toilets rented in the yard were brick squat pits, flies in summer, and urination in winter. But this headache did not stop the increase in the export of cheap and small saw blades. After the smashing, with the demand for concrete cutting, the laser welding saw blade first appeared, and the Changping factory acted decisively, becoming the industry leader in China to introduce the laser welding machine and the successful development of the welding saw blade. In addition, Changping Factory is the first unit in the domestic industry to pass ISO9001 quality certification, and the first Chinese member unit recognized by OSa standard. What is even more gratifying is that Changping Company has achieved steady results in anti-dumping in the international trade war against US anti-dumping in recent years.

At the end of the 1990s, the General Research Institute of Steel Research and Development deepened the reform. In 1999, it established the subsidiary of Antai Technology Co., Ltd. and listed it in Shenzhen in 2001. At that time, the biggest pillar industry of Antai Technology was the Changping factory, which was the industrial sector with the highest annual sales and annual profit. Today, the full name of Changping Factory is “Beijing Antai Steel Research Superhard Material Products Co., Ltd.”, led by more than 500 employees under the leadership of Chen Zhe, Liu Yibo and Xu Yanjun (the latter two are graduate students of Luo). The new large factory building and beautiful office produce eight series and more than 300 specifications, and export more than 90% of superhard material tools and other products. At the same time, with bold innovation and scientific development as the concept, aiming at the market, in addition to doing fine, strong processing of concrete, asphalt, building materials and other non-metallic materials, is called "traditional superhard tools" by the industry, is developing and processing Metals and IT, LED, photovoltaic and other new technology industries are called "emerging superhard tools" by the industry.

The Research Institute of Steel Research has been in the super-hard tool industry for more than 30 years. From the small-scale trial production of single products to the industrial production with international brand effect, it is the product of the country's reform and opening up of research institutes.
