Japanese machine tool orders increased sharply in the first half of the year
According to the latest data released by the Japan Machine Tool Industry Association (JMTBA), the number of machine tool orders in Japan in the first half of 2011 totaled 674.92 billion yen, an increase of 52.9% compared with the same period of the previous year. This is mainly due to the economic recovery after the financial crisis and the growing demand from emerging market countries. It is close to the goal of Japan’s machine tool orders expected to exceed 1 trillion yen in 2011, which is expected by the Japan Machine Tool Industry Association at the beginning of the year. Data show that in the first half of 2011, orders for machine tools from overseas markets were 466.12 billion yen, up 52.2% year-on-year; machine orders for the domestic market were 207.972 billion yen, an increase of 54.4%. Both domestic demand and external demand orders have increased by more than 50% year-on-year, but the industry of the Japanese machine tool industry, which relies mainly on overseas markets, has not changed. In June 2011, Japan’s machine tool orders amounted to 128.373 billion yen, an increase of 53.3% year-on-year. This is the 19th consecutive month that the Japanese machine tool industry has seen positive growth. Among them, the domestic market machine tool orders were 41.692 billion yen, an increase of 42.6%; the overseas market orders were 86.681 billion yen, an increase of 59.0%.
