During the test and use of the three-phase asynchronous motor, the base should ensure a good grounding state. If the coil insulation is damaged, causing the winding to collide with the core or the shell, a winding-to-ground fault will result. Today, the editor of Dalan Motor participated in the discussion about the ground fault of the motor.

First, the hidden danger of the motor to the ground

(1) The ground fault will make the motor shell live and cause the risk of electric shock. When the motor casing is poorly grounded, when the human body touches the casing, it will form a current loop through the body and ground and the power transformer through the winding grounding point of the motor, which may cause an electric shock accident.

(2) But as far as the motor itself is concerned, if there is only one ground connection, and the chassis is not grounded, so it cannot form a loop, the motor can still continue to run; however, if this fault is not eliminated in time, if there is another ground connection, then It will cause an inter-turn short circuit or an inter-phase short circuit accident.

(3) If the motor casing is grounded, although there is a phase leakage, the ground current can form a loop. At this time, it is safer for the person, but it is more harmful to the motor itself. Because the number of windings for the ground phase will be reduced accordingly.

Second, the analysis of the cause of the motor ground fault

Asynchronous motors can be divided into two types: stator-to-ground and rotor-to-ground. According to the repair situation, they can be divided into repairable faults and irreparable dead-to-ground.

Stator to ground:

(1) The stator lead of the motor and the chassis are grounded due to damage to the lead or stiffness of the lead during assembly.

(2) During the process of pressing the stator into the machine base, the radial or axial displacement of the punching sheet will break the insulation to the ground due to factors such as non-conformity of the end plate, loose punching or incorrect introduction.

(3) Dead-to-ground, the location of this type of fault is unknown, most of them are in the stator slots. In the production process, the stethoscope can be used to find the fault point carefully during the withstand voltage, but repeated withstand voltage can also cause the winding to be irreparable.

Rotor to ground:

(1) The rotor winding is grounded. It usually occurs in the slot and the slot, mostly due to the large burr of the iron core and the damage to the slot insulation during wire management. If it is the ground in the rotor slot, there is the possibility of dead ground.

(2) The ground between the rotor lead and the shaft. This is mainly for the case where the rotor leads pass through the shaft hole.

(3) Collector ring or carbon brush to ground. Generally due to the unreasonable structure of the collector ring itself, the carbon brush grounding generally occurs on small-sized motors, and the carbon brush tail is identified with the brush rod seat grounding.

(4) The fan and the winding in the rotor are grounded. The fan in the rotor generally adopts a steel plate structure or an aluminum fan structure, which is caused by insulation damage between the fan and the winding during processing.
