The International Standards Organization has published a new version of ISO898-1, which is much earlier than the normal five-year review schedule, which is the basic mechanical performance standard for carbon steel and alloy steel bolts. This standard is not only used to specify the properties of ISO standard bolts, screws and studs, but also the basis for drafting patent drawings for many non-standard fasteners. The International Standards Organization released the 2013 version of the standard in January, much earlier than the normal ISO five-year review schedule. The 2009 version of this standard is quite controversial, and several national standards bodies have commented on several of them. As a result, 11 members of the ISO Technical Subcommittee Subcommittee drafted two revisions, taking into account technical and editorial issues. However, the revisions were so extensive that the revised documents could not be released separately, so the International Standards Organization re-published ISO 898-1 and included the revised documents. This standard "preface" statement is a minor revision, but there are also some technical changes that may cause some of the products that have already been produced to become unsatisfactory. Regarding the reference standard, there are countless editorial revisions to clarify the updates that are usually necessary. This newly recognized ISO standard, which does not indicate a reference standard, continues to be used to ensure that the latest version of any reference standard is immediately applicable. The new version did not change the material type or intensity level, so Table 2 did not change. However, the maximum and minimum values ​​of Brinell hardness for grades 8.8 and above have increased, and the mechanical and physical properties have changed in Table 3. The idea of ​​updating the standard new version of ISO is that the latest version applies, so these changes may cause parts that do not meet the new standard to become inventories. Other technical changes are related to the definition and evaluation of carburizing and decarburization. There is a newly defined surface condition, ferrite decarburization. Non-carburizing is applicable to the description of strengths of 8.8 and above. There are also some revisions in the process. These surface conditions must be evaluated by microhardness testing and metallurgy, so this requires a test laboratory audit. The International Organization for Standardization has made this 2013 version a minor revision, but changes in technology are important, and both manufacturers and distributors need to be aware of these changes. The new version of EN ISO 898-1 is available from the National Standards Institute.
