Shenzhen overcomes research problems of black phosphorus materials

Among the 18 new peacock teams introduced in Shenzhen, many young researchers after 80 and 90 emerged as leaders in the research and development team of advanced optoelectronic devices for two-dimensional materials. Zhang Jian, born in 1984, is one of them. At present, the team has achieved international leading results in the research and development of two-dimensional materials such as graphene, new molybdenum disulfide, and black phosphorus, and in particular conquered the scientific research problem of “mass preparation of black phosphorus materials” and caused industry attention.

Collaborative Innovation Casts Super Material Dreams

“This is an era of collaborative innovation. Complementary advantages in team cooperation will help focus our research on international forward-looking issues and we hope to make progress as soon as possible,” said Zhang Hao. After 2012, the early alumni relations, scientific research cooperation, and location advantages of Shenzhen attracted four core members to take root one after another in Shenzhen. After a year and a half of brewing, they once again gathered to complete the team formation.

The “Two-dimensional Materials Advanced Optoelectronic Device R&D Team” consists of two research teams from Shenzhen University and the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The four core members are high-level returnees with rich experience in scientific research. The team now has 8 world-class laboratories and more than 40 professional researchers, many of whom are outstanding doctors and postdoctoral fellows. The average age is under 35.

It is understood that the four core members of the team have dozens of patents. Zhang Hao is a recipient of the National Youth Fund and the China Youth Group's Qingqian Plan, a deep distinguished professor and a doctoral tutor. He is mainly engaged in the research of optoelectronic properties of two-dimensional materials such as fiber lasers, nonlinear optics, and graphene; Professor Yu Xuefeng He is a research fellow and doctoral supervisor of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is the executive director of the National Material New Technology Development Research Institute and is dedicated to the research and development of optical functional materials. Dr. Wang Huaiyu is devoted to the research of the surface functional construction of materials; Dr. Feng is in optical communication. Measurement and application areas are quite successful.

Explore the unknown two-dimensional world

Prof. Yu Xuefeng introduced that graphene is a two-dimensional crystal with only one layer of atomic thickness separated from graphite by carbon atoms. It was first confirmed in 2004 that it can exist alone. It is currently the thinnest, hardest, most conductive nano-material with the highest conductive and thermal conductivity. It can be used in the manufacture of ultra-micro transistors, the production of future supercomputers, and is also suitable as a raw material for transparent electronic products, such as transparent touch display. With screens, light panels, and solar panels, scientists even predict that "graphene will revolutionize the 21st century." Professor Zhang Wei has been studying graphene for more than 8 years.

After the establishment of the team, in-depth study was carried out on controllable preparation of two-dimensional advanced materials represented by graphene, optical properties, application of optical devices and nonlinear optics, and controllable modification and surface modification of advanced two-dimensional materials. In addition, they will also focus on the Shenzhen optoelectronics industry, focusing on the research and development of high-end devices in the two-dimensional materials and optoelectronics field. In less than a year after its formation, team members jointly published more than 10 professional papers, including two published on the cover of international top academic journals such as German Applied Chemistry and Advanced Functional Materials. .

Research results promote enterprises to break barriers

Zhang Jian believes that consolidating basic research is conducive to mastering original core technologies. Only by avoiding quick success and instant benefits and taking the initiative can we grasp the rare opportunities of the times.

He said, “Scientific research topics should have two major attributes: top-of-the-line and site-based. First, with international forward-looking, research on new two-dimensional materials such as graphene has just started for 10 years. Such leading-edge photovoltaic devices have not yet formed a patented technology or commercial marketability. In the past five years, we have considerable potential to break the monopoly of foreign technology, help companies to circumvent dependence on foreign patented materials, seize the high ground of international technology, and help Shenzhen achieve industrial upgrading. Second, Shenzhen not only has Huawei, ZTE, as well as Rouyu and Guangqi, have a complete upstream and downstream industrial chain. It is expected that ultra-materials and thin-film materials may become the next new economic growth point for urban development.”

Opportunities are always reserved for those who are prepared. In 2014, a new type of graphene-like two-dimensional material, "black phosphorus," was discovered. Because it has a controllable energy gap, it converts electronic signals into light signals and has characteristics that graphene does not possess. Considered a new super material. In the early stage of international research, Zhang Yuhe and Yu Xuefeng led the team to successfully establish a new liquid phase preparation method for “black phosphorus”, revealing the unique layer-dependent Raman characteristics and optical nonlinearity of black phosphorus, and also utilizing black Phosphorus has successfully achieved mode locking of fiber lasers. The team's breakthrough in the "mass production of thin black phosphors" has been widely publicized by material science experts from Australia, Singapore and Europe. The team has become a leader in the study of black phosphor, a new two-dimensional material optics field.

Solid foundation for industrial development

Dr. Wang Huaiyu said that he was successfully selected into the “Peacock Team” project and received 15 million government grants to allow the team to further concentrate on the “heterojunction” of different two-dimensional materials, complete the preparation of new materials and the application of photovoltaic devices.

“There is no experience in this area and the research is difficult, but we will never give up.” Professor Zhang Wei said that in the future, by reducing the cost of large-scale production of two-dimensional materials, it will increase the market value of its commercialization; Division of labor and cooperation to achieve industrial transformation of R&D results... will bring significant room for improvement to relevant domestic industries.

Zhang Jian also has an identity as a member of the CPPCC Committee. He called on Shenzhen to "pay attention to the basic research in the frontier scientific field" and is responding in practice. He said that Shenzhen's inclusiveness and the governing power of “having an immediate and well-executed office” are rare in the country and are very impressive. Zhang Jian also advocated that for scientific research projects in the basic field, innovation should be more scientific and systematic, and it must not be a source of rootlessness and sourceless, and it requires a complete bottom-up innovation industrial chain as a support. It is necessary to meet the industrial development trend, but also have a solid market base in Shenzhen. In the future, the research and development achievements of two-dimensional materials and advanced optoelectronic devices will hopefully allow the underlying materials to break through the technical barriers and will greatly promote the development of the national optoelectronics field. About Escalators

Part of the urban landscape

Visit any large department store, shopping mall, metro station, airport or stadium anywhere in the world and you are sure to find escalators carrying people quickly and safely to their destination. The escalator has become an integral part of the urban landscape.

CEP Elevator Company has been safely and efficiently moving people for 20 years. CEP is the world`s leading manufacturer of elevators, escalators, moving walks and people movers. With 30,000 installations and operations in more than 89 countries, it`s safe to say that the world rides on CEP.

Finding a safer solution

Designing a safe transition point-where passengers step on and off the escalator-was one of the major problems in creating a successful moving stairway. A number of methods had been attempted before CEP solved the problem.

The pursuit of innovation

CEP, in its tradition of innovation, has continued to refine the escalator since it pioneered its introduction.

Safety, quality and reliability

CEP was founded on the principle of safety. Today, CEP has one of the best safety records in the vertical transportation industry. The company works constantly to improve the safety of existing products and to implement new, safer technologies. CEP emphasizes a corporate policy of [safety first" and implements standardized procedures to ensure that every installation and service task is performed the safest way every time.

The escalator today-an array of options

CEP wrote history with the introduction of the escalator in 1995. Today, it continues to improve the product through ongoing innovation.
