Researchers Produce "Super Fluorescent Dyes": Or Promote the Development of Liquid Energy Storage Batteries

This study blended PM 567 and acetonitrile solvents to create the fuel solution needed for the experiment.

Redox flow batteries are expected to solve this problem because their energy storage tanks can be easily scaled up to store large amounts of energy without exponentially increasing costs (especially compared to other systems based on lithium-ion batteries).

The current situation is that although liquid batteries have a relatively safe and cost-effective advantage, lithium-ion batteries still hold the position of market dominance.

The future is expected to supply super dyes for homes or cars.

To test the performance of the BODIPY-based battery, the team dissolved PM 567, an energy-based BODIPY dye, in acetonitrile solvent and then continued its hundreds of cycles of charge and discharge. It was found that the compound was not available throughout the entire cycle. There is a recession (this is very different from many other chemical materials).

Given that BODIPY has the same chemical properties, it is expected to develop more energy-storage dyes in the future. Based on the test results, the researchers predict that the BODIPY battery can produce a voltage of 2.3 volts.

The team’s findings have been published in the recently published journal ChemsusChem.
