Kennametal produces a pure diamond cutter
KD1405 developed by Kennametal of the United States is a pure diamond tool material with good toughness, which can significantly improve the wear resistance of the tool. It is used in continuous turning and light duty intermittent turning, finishing and semi-finishing milling. Tool life can be increased by 100% to 200% compared to PCD tools. KD1405 material is used to process non-ferrous materials with high wear resistance, such as medium to high silicon content aluminum alloy, various materials metal matrix composite (MMC), carbon composite materials, reinforced plastics, copper alloy materials. The diamond material is prepared by a CVD process and contains no binder. By using the plasma flame method manufacturing process, the microstructure of pure diamond can be obtained, and the strength and toughness are sufficient for the milling process. The diamond tip of the tool is vacuum welded to the carbide insert. The cutting edge is uniquely crafted to cut the workpiece material at low cutting pressures, so good results can be obtained when cutting thin-walled workpieces.
