Japan establishes single-layer carbon nanotube production technology

The Japan Industrial Technology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "Production Research Institute") and the famous City Carbon Nano Company announced on December 24, 2013 that the "eDIPS method" of single-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) manufacturing technology developed by Kokuei Research Institute (enhanced direct) Injection pyrolytic synthesis method, enhanced direct spray pyrolysis synthesis) developed an industrial production facility.

Compared with the original manufacturing process based on the arc discharge method of the famous carbon nanometer, the mass production efficiency of the new facility has reached 100 times that of the former. The company plans to provide single-layer CNT samples produced in new facilities from 2014.

The eDIPS method is a catalyst/gas contact reaction method that is improved by the gas-phase flow method, which is one of the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) methods. The feature is that single-layer CNTs with less impurities and high quality can be obtained. At present, it has been confirmed that with this production technology, the crystallinity expressed by the G/D ratio can be 5 to 10 times that of a commercially available monolayer CNT, and the purity also exceeds 99%. The diameter of CNTs is small, only about 2 nm.
